Privacy policy
Your privacy
Circled is a shared calendar for friends. Here’s what we promise, what’s up to you, exactly what we keep, and who else handles it.
Last updated 4 November 2026
What we promise
- No ads, and no tracking you across other apps or websites.
- We don't sell your data.
- What's free stays free. We won't move a feature you use behind a paywall.
What's up to you
- Who sees each plan. People you hide it from get "Busy" at most, and the details never reach their phone.
- Your boundaries, like work. Friends only see that you’re busy then, never what it is.
- Your phone number. It's optional, and we only keep a scrambled version and the last four digits.
- Your contacts. They're checked once and never saved, and nobody hears from us.
- Your phone's calendars. If you connect them, only the times leave your phone, never an event's name, place or notes, and you choose who sees Busy.
- Notifications. Reminders and nudges are set up on your phone, and you can turn them off in Settings.
- Your account. Deleting it removes you, your photo, your plans and your messages.
What to keep in mind
- Your plans and messages are stored on our server so your friends can see them. They aren't end-to-end encrypted.
- Anyone with your invite link can see your name and photo. Anyone with a plan's link can see that plan, until you turn the link off.
- Anyone with your calendar link can see the plans you're going to, until you turn it off.
- Notifications about invites, changes and chat pass through Expo and then Apple or Google to reach your phone, including the plan's name and the message.
What we keep
- Your account: your name, username, colour, photo if you add one, and your password, scrambled so nobody can read it.
- Your plans, replies, messages and polls, and the days, parts of days and boundaries you share.
- Your friends, groups, requests and blocks.
- The email address or phone number you sign up with, scrambled so it can only be checked, not read. For a phone number, its last four digits too.
- If you add a phone number later, the same: a scrambled version and its last four digits.
- If you connect your phone’s calendars, the start and end times of events. Never their names, places or notes.
- If you allow notifications, the address your phone gives us for them, until you log out.
- If you subscribe to your calendar link, the private code in that link, until you turn it off.
- If someone replies to a shared plan without an account, the name they give and their answer.
- If you report someone, your report and a copy of what you reported, so it can still be checked if it’s deleted.
What we never keep
- Your contacts. They’re checked once to find friends and thrown away.
- Your location, advertising identifiers or anything about how you use other apps.
- Analytics about what you tap. There’s no analytics or advertising code in the app.
Who else handles it
- Our hosting provider, currently Railway, which runs the server and stores what’s listed above.
- Expo, and then Apple or Google, which deliver notifications to your phone.
- A text message or email service, which sends the codes that check your phone number or email address. It gets the number or address and the code, nothing more.
- Nobody else. We don’t sell your data or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Everything stays while you have an account, so your calendar and chats are there when you come back.
- Deleting your account in Settings removes you and everything above that belongs to you, straight away.
- Turning off calendar sharing or your calendar link removes what it sent.
- A device you’re logged in on is logged out after 90 days without use.
- Codes that check your email or phone number stop working after 10 minutes.
Reporting
- You can report anyone, or any message, from inside the app. Every report is read by a person, and someone who breaks the rules can be removed from the app.
Changes to this policy
When this page changes, so does the date at the top. If a change affects what we promise, we’ll tell you in the app.
